MAXFIBER

Fungal fermentation product to improve fibre digestion and feed efficiency in ruminants

MAXFIBER is a fungal biomass produced by solid-state fermentation of plant substrates with selected fungal strains. Designed for dairy and beef cattle, it optimises rumen fermentation, improves nutrient digestibility, and enhances animal performance. MAXFIBER is available in two formulations:

  • MAXFIBER – for fibre-rich diets (high forage)

  • MAXFIBER/HSD – for high-starch diets

Key Benefits

  • Optimises rumen metabolism – Promotes degradation of fibre (cellulose, hemicellulose) or starch and pectin, depending on diet type.

  • Improves feed efficiency – On-farm trials demonstrated up to +2.6% feed efficiency and +1.4 kg additional daily milk yield.

  • Enhances nutrient utilisation – Increases total tract digestibility of crude fibre and structural carbohydrates.

  • Stabilises rumen pH – Reduces time spent below pH 5.8, lowering the risk of SARA and acidosis.

  • Prebiotic effect – Supports microbial colonisation and stimulates ruminal fermentation.

  • Flexible in use – Suitable for both forage-based and concentrate-rich rations.

How MAXFIBER Works

MAXFIBER is produced with a combination of five different fungal strains, providing a broad spectrum of enzyme activity. These enzymes increase the degradation of plant cell walls, releasing more available energy from the diet.

Key mechanisms include:

  • Smaller particle size – increases macroscopic surface area and cation exchange capacity in the rumen.

  • Improved fibre breakdown – greater degradation of hemicellulose and cellulose.

  • Enhanced rumen fermentation – better microbial activity and energy supply.

This leads to higher dry matter digestibility, improved feed conversion ratio, and sustained milk yield.

Proven Performance

  • Dairy trials (6 farms, 840 cows): MAXFIBER and MAXFIBER/HSD improved feed efficiency by up to +5% and increased milk yield across all farms tested.

  • In vitro studies: Showed a 9.9% reduction in particle size and a 9.9% increase in macroscopic surface area, enhancing degradation and nutrient availability.

  • Field results: Demonstrated higher persistency, improved rumen fermentation, and greater daily energy supply.

Application

MAXFIBER is easy to incorporate into ruminant diets:

  • Works effectively in forage-based rations with a high fibre-to-concentrate ratio.

  • Also suitable for high-starch rations where rapid fermentation rates can challenge rumen stability.

  • Beneficial in pasture-based, silage-based, and mixed rations.
